During my journey, I'll be raising funds for Heaven Hill Academy, an incredible organisation in Nepal that's close to my heart. I had the privilege of volunteering here through Work-Away back in 2022 and saw firsthand the positive impact they're making in the community. Founded by Shamser Thapa, Heaven Hill academy is providing free, peaceful and violence-free education for all their students.

​About heaven Hill Academy

 

Heaven Hill Academy is the first free non-violent school ever opened in Nepal. 

• Free because most families in the region are poor and often cannot pay for their children's education, leading to a high drop-out rate. This is why they offer all children school fees, uniforms. books, stationary and meals.

• Non-violent because the educational system in Nepal is still often based on the traditional hitting system, with 80% of Nepali children educated with physical punishment and violent discipline, leading to physical and psychological trauma

 

​Teachers and volunteers work together to provide individual attention and support, ensuring every child feels welcomed and loved. Volunteers from around the world help with teaching, cooking meals and even work on painting and maintaining the schools. This makes sure all the students are exposed to different cultures from a young age and can practice their English.

My goal is to support the school's mission and make a positive impact on the students' education. With each kilometre I cycle, I hope to raise awareness and support for this great cause. The funds will help to buy essential resources like books, pens, and other school supplies. It will help provide meals for all students, but also things like construction and maintenance materials, basic medical supplies to keep kids healthy, and even educational games to make learning more fun. In short, your contribution will cover all aspects of running these schools. Your help can truly make a difference in the daily lives of these kids
